Deputy claims GPD refused to aid in pursuit Copyright © 2009 GALLUP — McKinley County Sheriff’s Sgt. John Trevor-Smith claims that a Gallup Police officer failed to back him up, thereby causing a high-speed pursuit and subsequent manhunt. The incident that started it all was a domestic dispute. The call came into Metro Dispatch shortly after midnight on Nov. 28, according to Trevor-Smith’s incident report. The suspect was armed with a knife and a hammer. Trevor-Smith, a 17-year veteran law-enforcement officer, said Monday that he was near the incident location when the call came over the radio — 505 West Mesa Ave. He turned in that direction and pulled onto the 500 block of West Mesa Avenue. He noticed a white Pontiac leaving the driveway at 505, with its headlights off. To read more subscribe to the Gallup Independent by calling (505) 863-6811 or purchase the paper at the newsstand. |
