A former drug offender who credits his transformed life to the power of God, Morales was a married father of four teenagers who had just received shattering news. After his health had begun to fail, Morales had been diagnosed with liver disease from hepatitis C — possibly caused by unclean tattoo needles years before — and he wasn’t expected to live much longer without a liver transplant.
