Grants Rodeo Assn. parade
taking entries

By Jim Tiffin
Cibola County Bureau

GRANTS — This year’s Grants Rodeo Association parade theme on July 4 is “Celebrating Our Culture, Heritage and Tradition.”

Entries are now being accepted by the Rodeo Association through Grants-Cibola County Chamber of Commerce, 100 N. Iron St.

The fee is $10 per entry.

There will be three cash awards, one each for first, second and third places, with amounts of $200, $125 and $100, respectively.

Categories for entries include: Floats, marching groups, individual, horseback and individual, among others, said Star Gonzales, executive director of the chamber.

Lineup for the parade begins at 8 a.m., with the parade kicking off at 9 a.m.

Parade participants will line up on High Street at Warren. The parade route will be from Warren and Santa Fe Avenue to First Street then north, ending at the old Alco building.

“We need to know the exact length and width of entries this year,” Gonzales said.

The Quadrathlon Committee helps put together the lineup, meaning each entry must be considered how it may affect other entries, such as no horses next to loud music, etc.

“It takes some thinking to do,” she said.

The entry form also asks that each participant gives the contact name and day and evening telephone in case there are questions.

The parade will help celebrate the 83rd annual Wild West Days Rodeo at the Grants Rodeo grounds and there will be two days of music and kids games in the park next to the chamber on July 4-5.

The deadline for entries is 5 p.m., July 2.

Entry forms are available by contacting the chamber at (505) 287-4802 or by faxing the chamber at (505) 287-8224.
