Deaths

Augustine Anderson Sr.

LUKACHUKAI — Funeral services for Augustine A. Anderson Sr., 82, were 10 a.m., today, Aug. 14, at the St. Isabel Mission, Lukachukai. The Rev. Dennis Bosse, OFM, will officiate. Burial will be in Community Cemetery, Lukachuai. Visitation will be one hour prior to service.

Anderson died Aug. 11, 2008, in Fort Defiance. He was born July 1, 1926, in Lukachukai, into the Water Flows Together People Clan for the Red House People Clan.
Anderson worked as a rancher, carpenter, maintenance technician with IHS, and was a miner. He was a school board member and chapter official.

Survivors include his sons, Larry Anderson Sr. of Fort Defiance, Augustine Anderson Jr. of Buffalo Springs, Merle Anderson Sr. of Lawrence, Kansas Anderson, Melvin Anderson of Window Rock; daughters, Roselinda Anderson, Melinda West, both of Fort Defiance, Cynthia Anderson of Many Farms, Nora Anderson of Navajo; brother, Jimmy Anderson of Gallup; sisters, Helen Yazzie, Aileen Yazzie, both of Fort Defiance; 25 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren.

Anderson was preceded in death by his parents, John and Agnes Anderson; brothers, Ralph Anderson, Raymond Anderson; sister, Ella Mae Tso; first wife, Maggie Anderson; second wife, Flora Goldtooth; daughters, Matilda Anderson, Bernadine Francisco; son, Michael Anderson.

Pallbearers will be Michael Anderson Bull, Larry Anderson Jr., Allen West, Dwayne Anderson, Mike Warren, Elderidge Anderson.

Silver Creek Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Rose Sanders

THOREAU — Services for Rose Ann Sanders, 33, will be 11 a.m., Aug. 15, at Thoreau First Baptist Church. The Rev. Bobby Martinez will officiate.

Sanders died Aug. 9, 2008, in Albuquerque. She was born Nov. 11, 1974, in Gallup, into the Sleeping Rock People Clan for the Coyote Pass People Clan.

Sanders graduated from St. Bonaventure High School in Thoreau as the solutatorian. She was employed by Indian Village in Continental Divide as a bookkeeper and enjoyed assisting customers.

Survivors include her children; Camerson Platero, Ariana Shorty, Adam Shorty Jr.; mother, Jenny Early; brother, Timothy Yazzie; sisters, Delrae Yazzie Authur, Yolanda Chavez, Margretta Chavez; grandmother, Rosebelle Sanders.

Sanders was preceded in death by her grandparents, Chee Sanders Sr., Tom and Mabel Yazzie.

Reception will be at Thoreau Chapter, following services.

Robert Yazzie Jr.

TWIN LAKES — Funeral services for, Robert H. Yazzie Jr., 39, will be 10 a.m., Aug. 15, at the Free Trinity Mission, Tohlakai. The Rev. Dennis Gardner will officiate. Burial will be in family land. Visitation will be 3-4:30 p.m., today, Aug. 14, at Rollie Mortuary.

Yazzie died Aug. 11, 2008, in Twin Lakes. He was born April 14, 1969, in Gallup, into the Towering House People Clan for the Mexican People Clan.

Yazzie attended Twin Lakes Elementary, Tohatchi Middle School, Tohatchi High School and later received his diploma at UNM. He worked for various job sites around Gallup, and also worked for Four Corners Pipeline which took him to the California and Arizona areas. His hobbies included watching football and hanging out with his friends. His favorite football team was the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Survivors include his son, Aaron Yazzie; daughter, Rhiannon Saltwater; mother, Rose M. Yazzie; brother, Ronald Pinto of Albuquerque; sisters, Harriett Beyuka of Gallup, Roberta Yazzie of Sundance, Renee Yazzie of Twin Lakes, Regina Nez of Gallup.

Yazzie was preceded in death by his father, Robert H. Yazzie Sr.; grandparents, John and Mary Yazzie.
Pallbearers will be Gerald Hoskie, Victor Long, Alton Yazzie, Steve Yazzie, Alfonso Yazzie, Gales Thompson, Brian Orillie, Duane Saltwater.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Twin Lakes Chapter House, following services.

Rollie Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
