It's lights out for 3rd Street and Aztec Copyright © 2008 GALLUP The stoplights will remain off at Aztec and Third for some time. Drivers who pass through the busy intersection will have to get used to the stop signs, a city official said Tuesday. According to Executive Director of Gallup Joint Utilities Lance Allgood, it was a traffic accident that killed the lights. And now, the entire cabinet that controls the lights has to be replaced. The state takes care of such projects. Public Works Director Stan Henderson said that while the city has work crews to handle minor repairs, there is no traffic engineer to handle major repairs and planning. Replacing the lights could take six to eight weeks depending on a host of factors that are impossible to predict, Allgood said. |
