Habitat for Humanity

GALLUP — Habitat for Humanit and Rio West Mall and partnering to raise money. Local shoppers are invited to visit www.thegivingspree.com and make on online donation of at least $5 to Habitat by Friday, Nov. 14. Shoppers will receive a list of exclusive offers from mall retailers in Rio West Mall only available on Saturday, Nov. 15.

Classical Concert

GALLUP — The public in invited to a free concert by teh Red Rock String Ensemble and friends at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the First United Methodist Church, 1800 Red Rock Drive. The concert will feature music by Schubert, Mozart and Schumann.

Bingo Fundraiser

EL MORRO — San Lorenzo Mission is holding a Turkey Bingo fundraiser to benefit Susan Mayne and her children Scottie, 11, and Rose, 9, El Morro who were burned and hospitalized as a result of a propane explosion in their home. The accident occurred Sept. 12. The family has returned home and is recuperating, but still needs assistance. Players at the bingo event have a shot at a holiday turkey Saturday Nov. 8 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the mission near Ramah. Call (505) 350-5812 for information.

“Romanza” concert

GALLUP — The public in invited to a free concert “Romanza — The Art of the Tenor,” featuring three young tenors from Canada, at 7:30 p.m. at Gallup High School’s Kenneth Holloway Auditorium. The Gallup Independent is sponsoring the event, as part of the Gallup Community Concert Assn. performance series.

Veterans parade

GALLUP — Any disabled veterns in the city limits of Gallup who would like to participate in the Veterans Day Parade on Nov. 11 and need a ride, can call Bill Martinez at 505-863-3886. Ed Corley’s is providing two vans for the parade and vets can be picked up and returned to their homes.

TOHATCHI — The Tohatchi Chapter is now accepting Spring 2009 Semester Scholarship applications. Must provide scholarship application, voter registration, certificate of Indian blood, Letter of admission/verification of enrollment, transcripts, class schedule. NARFE Mtg.

GALLUP — The November NARFE meeting will move to Nov. 12, 2008. The FEHB folks will be hosted at the center on Nov. 5. The Nov. 12 meeting will be at the Southside Senior Center at Ford Canyon at 10:30 a.m. with a no-host lunch after meeting. More Info: 505-863-5712

Vet appreciation

RED ROCK, N.M. — An Appreciatiion Day for Veterans will be at 10 a.m., Nov. 15 at the Red Rock Church of God, five miles outh of Gallup on Highway 602. Former Navajo Nation President Kelsey Begay will be the speaker. Refreshments will be provided.

Flu Clinic
