Nellie Begay

MARIANO LAKE — Services for Nellie Woody Begay, 76, will be 10 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 22, at Community Bible Church, Mariano Lake. The Rev. Jerry Yonnie will officiate. Burial will be in family plot, Hosta Butte, N.M.

Begay died Aug. 19, 2009, in Thoreau. She was born Dec. 27, 1932, in Mariano Lake, into the Sage Brush Hill People Clan for the Zia People Clan.

Begay was a homemaker/rancher. She enjoyed being around her children and grandchildren.

Survivors include her sons, Herman Begay of Prewitt, Gabriel Begay of Mariano Lake; daughters, Louise Begay of Thoreau, Elizabeth Ruth Begay of Thoreau, Linda Begay of Thoreau; step-mother, Minnie B. Woody of Red Rock; brothers, Albert C. Barbone of Red Rock, Johnny C. Barboone of Albuquerque; sisters, Marguerite Hildreth of Red Rock, Martha B. Klah of Red Rock, June Johnson of Shiprock; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.

Begay was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Tso Begay; parents, Charlie Woody, Ah he nee bah Woody; daughter, Alice Begay.

Pallbearers will be Lance Begay, Tyler Begay, Sherman Mariano, Dale J. Begay, Cody Ramone, Tony Valdez.

Rollie Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Mary Benally

ROUND ROCK — Funeral services for Mary Rose Benally, 69, will be 10 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 22, at St. Isabel Mission, Lukachukai. The Rev. Blane Grein, OFM, will officiate. Burial will be in Lukachukai Community Cemetery. Visitation will be 9 a.m., one hour prior to services.

Benally died Aug. 18, 2009, in Chinle. She was born Oct. 10, 1939, in Round Rock, into the Water’s Edge People Clan for the Mexican People Clan.

Benally finished high school and received a diploma at Sherman Institute of California and Intermountain in Utah. She was a teacher’s aid at Round Rock school and a cook. Her hobbies included weaving, playing cards and visiting with friends and relatives.

Survivors include her sons, Eddie, Wilfred, Clementon, Leonard Benally, all of Round Rock; daughters, Alta Benally from Shiprock, Loretta Allen from Churchrock, Benita Allen of Lukachukai; mother, Ada Yazzie of Round Rock; brothers, Johnny, Larry Yazzie of Round Rock; sisters, Betty Benisho of Salt Lake City, Utah, Stella Begay, Lorrianne King, Charmayne Yazzie, Marie McCabbe, Alice Yazzie, all of Round Rock, Dorothy Scott of Navajo; 37 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren.

Benally was preceded in death by her father, James Yazzie; sister, Helen Begay; husband, Bah Benally; son, Joseph Benally.

Pallbearers will be Vester Benally, Shawn Benally, Eddie Benally Jr., Gary Allen, Robert M. Williams, Eddie Benally Sr.

The family will receive relatives and friends at the late Mary R. Benally’s residence, following services. The family will meet 6 p.m., daily.

Tse Bonito Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Joy Mitchell

CHINLE — Funeral services for Joy V. Mitchell, 41, were 10 a.m., today, Aug. 21, at Grace Fellowship Community Church, Chinle. Burial will be in Begay family cemetery, 1 1/2 miles east of church.

Mitchell died Monday, Aug. 17, 2009. She was born Dec. 21, 1967, in Ganado.
