Susie Largo

TWIN LAKES — Services for Susie Sissy Largo, 79, will be 10 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 26, at Cope Memorial Chapel, Gallup. The Rev. Dennis Gardner will officiate. Burial will be in private family lan.

Largo died Aug. 22, 2009, in Gallup. She was born Jan. 14, 1930, in Twin Lakes, into the Tachine People Clan for the Kingaam People Clan.

Largo worked 16 years in the cotton fields in Brownsville, Texas. She was also a dishwasher, silversmith and did beadwork. Her hobbies included sewing, taking walks, and quilting.

Survivors include her daughters, Virginia Tsinajinnie of Twin Lakes, Marjorie Hansen of Mentmore, Theresa Tso of Mentmore; brothers, Wilson Etsitty of Tohlakai, David Etsitty of Twin Lakes; sisters, Lucy Yazzie of Twin Lakes, Joann Lafever of Blackfoot, Idaho; 16 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren.

Largo was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Largo; brothers, Kee Etsitty Jr., Bennie Etsitty; sister, Annie Haley.

The family received relatives and friends at Twin Lakes Chapter, 5 p.m., Aug. 24.

Cope Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Floris Leekity

GALLUP — Services are pending for Floris F. Leekity, 46.

Leekity died Sunday, Aug. 23, 2009, in Gallup. She was born Feb. 20, 1963, in Gallup, into the Towering House People Clan for the Red House People Clan.

A family meeting will be 6 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 26, at Red Bluff Trailer Park, 2804 East Chamisal, space #65.

Sister Evangelist Roanhorse

CHINLE — Funeral services for Sister Evangelist Darlene Roanhorse, 58, were 10 a.m., today, Aug. 25, at Potter’s House Church, Chinle. The Rev. Douglas Cline officiated. Burial was in Del Muerto Community Cemetery.

Roanhorse died Aug. 20. 2009, in Flagstaff. She was born June 3, 1951, in Canyon Del Muerto, into the Coyote Pass People Clan for the Bitter Water People Clan.

Roanhorse had an AA degree from Navajo Community College, BA degree from Prescott College and attended Miracle Valley Bible College. She was employed at Chinle Boarding School from 1974-1985, Many Farms High School from 1985-1996 and Pinon Community School from 1997-1999. She founded and worked at Hosana Ministry from 2000- 2009.

Survivors include her brothers, Robert Roanhorse, Hoskie Roanhorse, Frank Roanhorse, Francis Roanhorse, John Roanhorse, all of Chinle; sisters, Dorothy Roanhorse of Chinle, Bessie Roanhorse of Mesa.

Roanhorse was preceded in death by her father, Dick Roanhorse; mother, Jessie Roanhorse.

Pallbearers were Eddie Roanhorse, Elmerson L. Woody, Terry N. Begaye, Tecumseh S. Curley, David Charley Jr., Sheldon Charley. The family received relatives and friends at Presbyterian Church, Tse’yi’biddaa’di.

Tse Bonito Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Sgt. Troy Tom

BECLANITO — Funeral services for Sergeant Troy Orion Tom, 21, will be 10 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 26, at Farmington Civic Center, 200 West Arrington, Farmington. The Rev. Larry Jack will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery with military honors. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 25, at Desert View Funeral Home Chapel, Shiprock.

Sgt. Tom died Monday, Aug. 17, 2009,in Kandahar, Afghanistan. He was born April 2, 1988.

Sgt. Tom died while serving in the U.S. Army.
Survivors include his parents, David and Carolyn Tom; brothers, Steve Tom, Leon Harvey; sister, Carrizoe Tom.

Marcella White

BELEN — Mass for Marcella “Marcy” Santistevan White, 60, will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 29, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Springer. A rosary will be recited at 10 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 29, at the St. Joseph’s Church.

White died Thursday, Aug. 20, 2009.

White’s love of cooking, inspired incredible meals which comforted many people. The friends she made in the Belen and Gallup communities brought her great joy. She will be missed.

Survivors include her husband, Robert L. White; brothers, Joe, Paul; sisters, Mary, Molly; sons, Tom Edeal, Dennis Edeal; daughters, Laurie Edeal Boyce, Deborah Edeal Norman; six grandchildren.

White was preceded in death by her parents, George Santistevan, Jenny Pacheco Santistevan.

Mary Whitney

TOHATCHI — Services for Mary B. Jones Whitney, 76, will be 10 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 26, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Tohatchi. Burial will be in homeland, Tohatchi.

Whitney was born into the Folded Arms People Clan for the Black Streak of Forest People Clan.

Whitney was a homemaker, rug weaver and medicine lady. She always helped people. She loved everyone and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.

Survivors include her daughters, Katherine Begay, Martha Willito, Sally Tony, Genevieve Tuney, Etheleen Kamper, Margie Lee, Jennie Whitney, Sarah Jones; brother, George Ben; sisters, Betty Rodgers, Laura Johnson; 21 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.

Whitney was preceded in death by Bernice Denetdale, Dewayne Willeto.

Pallbearers will be Jerry Denetdale, Terry Denetdale, Paul Denetdale, Henry Silva, Lloyd Lee, Patrick Toni.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Tohatchi Chapter House, following services.
