GALLUP — The man accused of leaving the scene after running over a construction flagger in Prewitt July 30 was released from jail Aug. 13, according to court records.

Milroy Vandever, 37, is charged with homicide by vehicle and DWI in connection with the death of 47-year-old Vivian Williams. Williams was directing traffic at the intersection of N.M. Highway 412 and the exit 63 off ramp from Interstate Highway 40 when Vandever allegedly ignored a traffic sign and struck Williams without stopping. A citizen who had been stopped on the adjacent corner followed Vandever until police caught up with him at exit 64 in Milan. Williams was pronounced dead at the scene.
