Blanche Begay

NASCHITTI — Funeral services for Blanche Begay, 73, will be 10 a.m., Friday, Sept. 11, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Naschitti. The Rev. Bob will officiate. Burial will be in Naschitti Community Cemetery. Visitation will be 9-10 a.m., Friday, Sept. 11, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church.

Survivors include her husband, George K. Begay of Naschitti; son, Matthew Begay of Naschitti; daughters, Beverly Miller of Naschitti, Carol Begay of Flagstaff; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Matthew Begay, Andrew Begay, Pete Nez and Larrison Davis.

Cope Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Martha Tafoya

ST. MICHAELS — Funeral services for Martha Helen-Nez Tafoya, 78, will be 10 a.m., Friday, Sept. 11, at St. Michaels Catholic Church. The Rev. Gilbert Schneider, OFM, will officiate. Burial will be in St. Michaels Community Cemetery. Visitation will be 9 a.m., Sept. 11, at St. Michaels Catholic Church.

Tafoya died Sept. 4, 2009, in Albuquerque. She was born May 11, 1931, in Gallup, into the Black Streak Forest People Clan.

Tafoya graduated from St. Michaels Indian School. She was employed with KOBTV and a vocational school as a secretary. She volunteered her time as a caretaker assistant at St. Joseph’s Hospital. Her hobbies included beading jewelry, weaving, going to the mountains, visiting and being with family, going to the zoo and walking and shopping.

Survivors include her sons, Robert David Nez of Albuquerque, Johnny Ray Tafoya of Limm, Colo., Patrick Tafoya of Manhattan, N.Y.; daughter, Rose Tafoya of Tampa, Fla.; sister, Mary Hosteen Nez Kee of St. Michaels; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

Tafoya was preceded in death by her brothers, John Nez Sr., James Nez; sisters, Lottie Nez, Mabel Tsosie; son, Kenneth Nez.

Pallbearers will be Donald H. Kee, William T. Cloude Jr., Wilfred Watson Jr., Toby Williams, Tony Williams and Jessie Yazzie.

The family will receive relatives and friends at St. Michaels Chapter House, following services.
Tse Bonito Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
