Deaths

Roger Begay

BLACK MOUNTAIN MISSION, Ariz., — Services for Roger Lee Begay, 56, were at 10 a.m., today, Oct. 27 at Black Mountain Mission. Burial followed after services.

Begay died Oct. 20, 2009 in Blue Gap, Ariz. He was born May 26, 1953 in Blue Gap.

Begay graduated from Many Farms High School in 1973.

Survivors include his brothers Larry Begaye, Sr., Andrew Begay, Benjamin Tully; sisters Jean Hardeman, Lita Begay, Marjorie Benally, Kathryn Ramos; several nieces, nephew and grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his mother Alice Desbah Lee; brother Jesse Tully.

Pallbearers will be Andrew Begaye, Larry Begaye Jr., Delbert Begaye, Ricardo Acedo, A.J. Yazzie and Donovan Begaye.

The family will receive relatives and friends 3 miles north of Blue Gap Chapter following services.

Silver Creek Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Phoebe Henderson

GANADO, Ariz., — Services for Phoebe B. Henderson, 88, will be at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 28 at Mary Mother of Mankind Church in St. Michaels. Visitation will be one hour prior to service. A rosary will be today, Oct. 27 at 7 p.m., at the church.

Henderson died Oct. 25, 2009 in Flagstaff. She was born Oct. 15, 1921 in Ganado into the Tangle People Clan for the Edgewater People Clan.

Henderson attended school in St. Michaels. She enjoyed traveling, sewing and herding sheep.

Survivors include her son James Henderson Jr.; daughters Marcella Hubbard, Melinda Henderson, Tina Lincoln, Alicia Henderson, 40 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband James Henderson Sr.; children Ruth Ann Henderson, Milton Henderson, Raymond, Cecil, Lorenzo, Herbert, Bertha Ann.; sisters Evelyn B. Tso, Marie Curley, Marie Silversmith; brothers John Mego, Phillip Bennett and three grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Brandon Lincoln, Melvin Lincoln, Kendrick Begay and other family members. The family will receive relatives and friends at the Catholic Parish Hall.

Tse Bonito Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Mark Lewis

SANDERS — Funeral services for Mark Stewart Lewis, 80, will be 12 p.m., Oct. 28, at Good News Church, Houck. The Rev. Milt Shileson will officiate. Burial will be in Houck.

Lewis died Oct. 23, 2009, in Albuquerque. He was born May 10, 1929, in Sanders, into the One Walks Around People Clan for the Black Sheep People Clan.

Lewis was a Sanders High School graduate and was a U.S. Army Veteran. He served in Korea and Vietnam. He retired in 1970. Lewis was employed by Arizona State Labor program and the Navajo Tribe-Director of Veteran Affairs and Division of Labor, and retired in 1995.

His hobbies included fishing, Chinese cooking, flying single engine aircrafts, repairing televisions, photography, auto mechanics and song and dance.

Survivors include his sons, Tom S. Lewis of Gallup, Ted Lewis of Gallup, Bill Lewis of Albuquerque, Stewart Lewis of Houck, Ariz., Art Preston on Lymon, Colo., Ernest Preston of Fort Apache, Ariz.; daughter Lillian Lewis-Solis of Rio Rancho, 16 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren.

Lewis was preceded in death by his son Dr. Ervin Lewis; parents Tom Lewis and Lillian Lewis.

Pallbearers will be Pedro Solis Jr., Sean Lewis, Nolan Lewis, Louis Saunders, Eddie Harker and Leo Eriacho.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Houck Chapter House following services.

Cope Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Dollie Ward

LAS VEGAS, Nev. — Memorial services for Dollie Rita Ward, 64, will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 28, at First Assembly of God, Gallup. The Rev. David Toppen will officiate.

Ward died Oct. 22, 2009, in Gallup. She was born April 10, 1945, in Naschitti, into the Nalaani People Clan for the Edge of Water People Clan.

Ward had a Bachelor’s degree in computers. She was a computer operator for Levi Straus for 22 years, in Henderson, Nev. Her hobby was reading her bible.

Survivors include her daughter, Samantha Yazzie; brother, Richard Hoskie; sister, Claressa Tommy, Elizabeth Jackson; two grandchildren.

Ward was preceded in death by her sisters, Laura Amos, Regina Becenti, Ruth Thomas, Caroline Nez, Mary Hoskie; brothers, Ernest Hoskie, James Hoskie, Eddie Hoskie; parents, John Hoskie, Grace Hoskie.

Cope Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Myron Yazzie

GALLUP — Services for Myron Yazzie, 25, will be announced at a later date.

Yazzie died Oct. 24, 2009 in Gallup. He was born Sept. 18, 1984 in Gallup. There will be a family meeting today at 5 p.m., at Manuelito Chapter House.
