High court halts Evans trial Copyright © 2009 GALLUP — The murder trial for Joseph Evans stopped Thursday afternoon, at the order of the New Mexico Supreme Court, and will not continue until at least Tuesday. Earlier this week the judge presiding over the Evans trial, Judge Robert Aragon, affirmed an order drafted by Evans’ attorney, Mike Rosenfield of Albuquerque, which effectively prevented the jury from viewing and hearing testimony about certain pieces of state’s evidence. District Attorney Karl Gillson and Deputy Chief District Attorney Jim Bierly formally requested the judge reconsider his decision to suppress, but Aragon refused.
