GRANTS — On Friday, officers and firefighters from Grants Police, New Mexico State Police, Western New Mexico Correctional Facility and Grants Fire and Rescue picked up 18 students from area schools to participate in a “Shop with a Cop,” program.

Carlos Chavira, 13, a seventh-grader at St. Teresa’s Catholic School said: “I thought when the police showed up and called my name — because I did some bad stuff a while back — that they were there to arrest me.”
