Leslie Johnson Sr.

CHINLE — Funeral services for Leslie Michael Johnson Sr., 62, will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 12, at the Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Stake Center, Chinle. Burial will be in family plot, Tsaile.

Johnson died Aug. 8, 2009, in Chinle. He was born May 3, 1947, into the Big Water People Clan for the Near the Water People Clan.

Johnson graduated from Chinle High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Army, was a member of the 82nd Airborne Division and served one tour of duty in Vietnam. He went on to attend the University of Utah, graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology with a minor in Anthropology. He worked as a counselor with the Indian Alcoholism Counseling and Recovery House Program in Salt Lake City, and a Mental Health Counselor with the Indian Health Services in Chinle.

Survivors include his children, Dedra Cugar, Leslie Johnson Jr., Shannon Johnson, Mariah Johnson; father, Mike L. Johnson of Tsaile; brothers, Rex A. Johnson Sr., Anthony Johnson; sisters, Larraine Johnson-Sorrell, Lena Johnson, Marjorie Johnson-Klee; 14 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

Johnson was preceded in death by his mother, Margaret J. Johnson; sons, Travis Johnson, Dax Johnson.

Lawrence Murphy

PAGE — Funeral services for Lawrence Damien "Larry" Murphy, 65, were Aug. 7, in Page. Burial followed.

Murphy died Monday, Aug. 3, 2009, in Page. He was born Sept. 25, 1943, in Gallup.

Murphy graduated from Sacred Heart Cathedral in 1961, in Gallup and attended Kansas State College of Pittsburgh where he learned his trade as an electrician and graduated in 1963. He moved to Page in 1971. In 1974, he opened Jack’s Sporting Goods, which he later sold. He was a lifelong member and supporter of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. In 1983, he opened Live Wire Electric in Page and developed it into a thriving electrical contracting business. Murphy was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a beloved father, brother, friend and a respected businessman.

Survivors include his children, Cheryl Ellars of Cave Creek, Justin Murphy of Queen Creek, Travis Murphy of Chandler; sisters, Barbara Dawes, Mary Kay Blickenderfer, Dorothy Spezze, Frances Coody, Peggy Murphy and Patricia Tomljanovich.

Murphy was preceded in death by his parents, James and Clara Murphy; brothers, Jimmy Murphy, Billy Murphy; sister, Geraldine Murphy; son, Lee Damien Murphy.

Mary Peshlakai

LUKACHUKAI — Services are pending for Mary Elsie Peshlakai, 105.

Peshlakai died Sunday, Aug. 9, 2009, in Farmington. She was born July 1, 2009, in Lukachukai.

Charles Roller

HUGO, Okla. — Funeral services for Charles Billy “Bill” Roller will be 9 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 12, at Mt. Olive Funeral Home Chapel, Hugo, Okla. Graveside services with Military honors will be 3 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 12, at the cemetery in Southwest City, Mo.

Roller died Aug. 8, 2009.

Roller loved life and loved telling stories.
Survivors include his wife, BobAnn of Hugo; children, Donna Harris of Spring Branch, Texas, Kay Storr of Santa Fe, Robin Dickson of Edgewood, Dr. Dean Roller of Park City, Utah; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

Roller was preceded in death by his wife, Twila; son, Steve; sister, Doris; step-son, Chip Clark.

The family will receive relatives and friends 6-7 p.m., tonight, Aug. 11, at Mt. Olive Funeral Chapel.

Robert Remiro

ARIZONA — Services for Maj. Robert S. Remiro, 70, were held in Flagstaff, with full military honors.
Remiro died Aug. 4, 2009. He was borm March 17, 1939, in Santa Cruz, Calif.

Maj. Remiro was in the U.S. Army Special Forces, as a Green Beret and as a paratrooper.

He served in Vietnam and was a recipient of the Silver Star and the Purple Heart.

Survivors include his wife Annie Remiro; children, Robert T. Remiro Jr., Steven T. Remiro, Edward T. Remiro, Tammie T. Remiro, Teresa Keeny, Sheila Hubbard; brothers, Sam McFall of Portland, Org., James McFall of Tulsa, Okla.; sisters, Betty McFall-Perkins of Dallas, Texas, Rose Williams of Lake Havasu. 

Maj. Remiro was preceded in death by his parents, George Remiro and Jessie Olive; sisters, Bette Torres of Roseburg, Org., Sandria Carillo of Barstow, Calif.

Martha Thomason

GALLUP — Funeral services for Martha Julia Thomason, 89, will be 1 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 12, at First Baptist Church, Gallup. The Rev. Jay McCollum will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park, Gallup.

Thomason died Aug. 8, 2009, in Grants. She was born Nov. 16, 1919, in Thornton, Ark.
Thomason graduated from Chambersville High School and attended 2 years of business school.

She was employed by Sunwest Bank for 25 years. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Gallup for 45 years. Thomason was also a member of the Gallup-McKinley County Quilters Guild and a volunteer for RMCH Auxiliary. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, crocheting and being with family.

Survivors include her son, Ronnie Thomason of Vanderwagen; daughter, Geraldine Thomas of Gallup; brothers, William Thomas Hearnsberger of El Dorado, Ark.; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

Thomason was preceded in death by her husband, Jasper H. Thomason; father, James Robert Hearnsberger; mother, Amelia Hudson; step-mother, Hazel House; brothers, Durwood Orville Hearnsberger, Robert E. Lee Hearnsberger.

Pallbearers will be William P. Edwards Jr., Rhonda E. Thomason, Robert S. Thomason, Ben E. Curfman, Edward A. Hearsberger, Jimmy Hearnsberger.

The family will receive relatives and friends at First Baptist Church, Gallup, following services.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church, Gallup.

Faye Yazzie

TOHATCHI — Funeral services for Faye Allison Yazzie, 98, were 10 a.m., today, Aug. 11, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Tohatchi. The Rev. John Mittelstadt officiated. Burial was in family cemetery, Tohatchi. A rosary was recited at 7 p.m., at St. Mary’s Church, Tohatchi.

Yazzie died Aug. 8, 2009, in Gallup. She was born Feb. 14, 1911, in Tohatchi, into the Zia Weavers People Clan for the Zuni People Clan.

Yazzie was a homemaker and rancher. Her hobbies included word search puzzle, associating with relatives and grandchildren.

Survivors include her sons, Johnny Y. Badonie of Tohatchi, Tommye Y. Badonie of Tohatchi, Nelson B.Yazzie of Page, Peterson B. Yazzie of Tohatchi, Herman B. Yazzie of Tohatchi; daughter, Priscilla Duncan of Tohatchi; 22 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren.

Yazzie was preceded in death by her husband, Tom B.Yazzie; son, Leonard B. Yazzie; sisters, Mary Burbank, Evelyn Badonie, Mae Mitchell; brothers, John Allison, Mike Allison, Pierce Allison, Isaac Allison, Hosteen Nez Begay.

Pallbearers will be Blaine B. Yazzie, Ken Jay Yazzie, Barren Yazzie, Marvin Duncan, Derek Duncan, Shawn Mitchell.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Tohatchi Chapter House, following services.
